I am a she-jay

Every position comes with a degree of responsibility, even if you don't know it at the time. On our recent road trip, I thought it would be sensible to call shotgun, as I am prone to travel sickness - I even once got sick when I was driving! What I didn't realise was that the front passenger seat of s car carries a heavy burden - that of controlling the in-car entertainment.

It was a task for which I was monumentally unsuited. Having previously shown myself unable to distinguish between Beyonce, Rihanna and One Direction, it was always going to be a mistake to ask me to drive the iPod. My music runs a pretty full range across over 7000 pieces of music but I was unable to find much that satisfied the rest of the car.

I'm fine, DJing for myself but then, everyone is. It's when I have to think of something suitable for others that I struggle. All I could think of was a music compilation which did not last long in the car. After a short time, my iPod was put out of its misery and Mr L's iPhone, complete with s much more suitable collection of music, plugged in instead.

DJing has clearly come a long way since the mid-80s, when I used to help with a mobile disco at weddings. Times change and not always for the better. What's wrong with "Hi Ho Silver Lining" anyway?
